    Description

Citizen Kane (RKO, 1941). Rolled, Good on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A. Despite what many commentators call the best movie of all time, Heritage has offered only a scant few style A one-sheets for this picture over the years. This may be due to the circumstances of the film's release when newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst (the inspiration for the character of Kane) did everything he could to squash the release and advertisement of the movie. Known for his vindictive streak and a pathological lack of scruples, he threatened the studio, executives, and theater owners with libel should they show the film. RKO struggled to find any theaters willing to screen the picture, and audiences were sparse even at some of the premiers. Regardless, contemporary reviews from other publications raved about the picture, and it was nominated for a total of nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor! The poster has been professionally restored, though it once showed signs of chips or tears, pinholes, fold wear, mild paper loss, and fold separation. The lower left panel near Welles' right leg has been expertly replaced as the lower right eighth of the poster was missing. The borders and folds have been airbrushed.
