Description

Charlie Chaplin's personal accordion. The great comedian Charlie Chaplin developed a passion for music as a child. While not a "trained" musician, Chaplin composed the scores for his films by singing or playing tunes he'd improvised on piano and having professional composers transcribe them. This is Chaplin's personal vintage Lester brand High Quality accordion. Consisting of black lacquered wood, bronze, and steel. The keys are capped in mother of pearl, and the bellows are covered with a paisley fabric. The German-made accordion also has detailed filigree adornments. It's not hard to imagine Chaplin playing along to himself and creating the basis for his musical composition. Chaplin compositions "Smile" and "Love this is My Song" both went on to become contemporary hits. Well-used and exhibiting age and wear, the accordion remains functional. Provenance: Originally from the Collection of Mirella and Giuliano Canese. Sold at Julien's Icons & Idols Auction, 9 November 2012. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
