Cesar Romero's Opera Clown Costume from Batman (1966). This satin tunic, pants, and hat were worn by Romero as Batman's arch-enemy the Joker in the Season One episodes "The Joker is Wild/Batman is Riled" (airdates: January 26 and 27, 1966).
The episodes marked Romero's series debut as the Joker, whom he would play in a total of ten episodes, as well as in the 1966 feature film. As with Frank Gorshin and Burgess Meredith's performances as the Riddler and the Penguin, respectively, it would become one of veteran actor Romero's best-known roles.
The memorable story involved Batman and Robin attempting to capture the Joker at a performance of Pagliacci; instead, it is he, disguised as the classic opera's tragic clown, who captures them and attempts a public unmasking.
Original villain costumes from the series are quite rare and highly desirable. In overall Very Fine condition with two small areas of discoloration along the back of the right shoulder seam (most likely from a metal hanger during its storage at the studio) and a very minor area of discoloration along front left collar, hardly visible. The back of the pants have a small 2" line of discoloration. Other than that, it's in astounding shape with strong seams, firmly secured embellishments, and a beautiful, consistent satin surface. Accompanied by a COA from Profiles in History.
