    The "George Spelvin Award" Trophy from The Masquers Club (ca. 1960s). Vintage original cast brass 10.5" x 4" figural trophy consisting of a nude character poised on integral pedestal base, covering private parts with the traditional comedy and tragedy theater masks and a rumpled top hat and spats on bare feet. The Masquer's Club was founded by actors in the 1930s. The story goes that a superstitious director realized there were 13 actors in a play. Not wanting bad luck, he cast 12 actors and had one of them play two characters; one listed under his own name and one as, "George Spelvin." Over time, the award has been presented to notables including Fred Astaire, John Huston, Harold Lloyd and many more. This particular award is not engraved with a recipient's name, so it was never awarded. Exhibiting expected age and patina. COA from Heritage Auctions.
