    Description

    A Hatful of Rain Awards (2) Along With Photos, Memo, Telegram, and Newspaper Clipping (1957). Two awards for the 1957 film, directed by Fred Zinnemann, produced by Buddy Adler, and starring Eva Marie Saint, Don Murray, and Anthony Franciosa, along with documentation of the film's response. Both awards were presented at the 18th Venice International Film Festival, which ran from August 25 until September 8, 1957. Includes: 1) An OCIC (International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual) award presented to Zinnemann on a marble plinth. Measures 7.5" tall. In Good condition with some spots of loss on the plaque, and toning on the entire award; 2) A Pasinetti Award, also presented to Zinnemann. Measures 14" tall. In Good condition with significant toning and soiling throughout, along with some chipping on the base, and repair done to one of the handles; 3) A Western Union telegram, dated September 5, 1957, to Buddy Adler; 4) A memo from Buddy Adler to Harry Brand about A Hatful of Rain, dated September 5, 1957, stapled to a Western Union telegram; 5) A newspaper clipping from the Los Angeles Examiner, dated September 5, 1957, about an audience's response to A Hatful of Rain; 6) Two black and photos related to the awards. One (measuring 8" x 10") features Adler with the award. The other (measuring 7" x 9.8") features the Pasinetti award.

    Buddy Adler (1906-1960) received the Best Picture Academy Award for From Here to Eternity (1953); directed by Fred Zinnemann (1907-1997), who received the Academy Award for Best Director. In 1954, Adler transferred from Columbia to 20th Century-Fox. In 1956, he replaced Darryl F. Zanuck as Head of Production, a position he held until his death July 12, 1960. He not only supervised all the filmmaking, but personally produced 14 films, including A Hatful of Rain.

    The Venice International Film Festival, founded in Venice, Italy August 1932, is the oldest film festival in the world and one of the "Big Three" film festivals, alongside Cannes Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival.
