Description

Winston Churchill Large Photo and Signature Display. A stunning piece of 20th century history, this 29.5" x 44" framed tribute under glass to Sir Winston Churchill, including an FDC of the Churchill stamp, signed by: Field Marshall Montgomery of Alamein; Lord Avon (Sir Anthony Eden), Admiral of the Fleet Mountbatten of Burma; Sir Robert G. Menzies; Sir Harold Macmillan; and Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer. All of these men were pallbearers at Churchill's funeral (except Montgomery of Alamein, who declined the honor, as he was out of the country and disliked funerals -- he didn't even attend his mother's). Center above the FDC is a 10" x 13" b&w portrait of Churchill, and flanking it are 13 b&w photos of Churchill throughout his life: a boy at age seven; in the Sudan Fourth Hussars, 1895; a soldier in the Boer War, 1899; a mounted soldier in India; First Year M.P., age 26; with Mrs. Churchill, 1910; a Lt. Colonel in World War I; his Prime Minister portrait, 1941; in Tunis, 1943; at the Yalta Conference with Roosevelt and Stalin, 1945; in his studio at Chartwell; at Chartwell Lake; and a picture taken at his state funeral. A small plaque identifies each photograph. (Please note the plaque under the FDC has an error -- the signature is that of Gerald Templer, not Henry Templer.) By decree of the Queen, Churchill received a state funeral January 30, 1965, attend by one of the largest assemblages of statesmen in history. An awesomely significant historical piece, in Excellent condition. Accompanied by a James Spence Authentication auction LOA. Requires third party shipping.
