Description

William Shatner Handwritten Signed Recollection of the Very First Star Trek Episode. A handwritten recollection from the actor who played Captain Kirk on the original Star Trek series. He muses about the fast pace, tight clothes and, above all, figuring out everyone's place in the action. Throughout the three year series, Shatner was known to appropriate the best lines, which he also alludes to here:

"The first episode of Star Trek was very important, it set the tone of work from there on - Where did we sit? - Who got up? - Who meandered around the set of the bridge - How does the bridge work? - Who comes over to the command chair and why? Working with the actors, the director has to make decisions very quickly - presumably in the director's preparation he has, in his mind's eye, imagined all this before and has a distinct idea of who goes where and what does what - of course, not all directors work that hard - some come to the set and photograph what the actors spontaneously do. That can be exciting, it can also be chaotic. - In the hurly-burly world of episodic T.V. organization is the key. In our case we had six days to film each episode. Six days! As we became accustomed to the sets and the props and the tight uniforms, it became easier - but that 1st episode was a shakedown cruise. We slowly eased into our characters - the writers and the producers had to learn as well - how did the individual actor fit what was written for him - how was the set working - what kind of lights would look good - these were the questions - the answers came slowly. / William Shatner"
