To Kill a Mockingbird Pre-and-Post Production Correspondence to Actor Phillip Alford, and Production Slides. To Kill a Mockingbird resonates not only due to Harper Lee's brilliant, Pulitzer Prize-winning story and Gregory Peck's towering, Oscar-winning performance, but also due to the perfect casting of the three children -- including 13-year-old Phillip Alford as Jem. This lot includes Alford's original five-page contract with Pakula-Mulligan Productions (actually his parents' contract, since Phillip was a minor) signed by the parents, producer Alan Pakula, and Phillip; 30 slides from the production, showing Peck, Alford, and various members of the cast; a statement of estimated expenses signed by Doris Sue Alford, Philip's mother, which comes with its original Universal-International Pictures envelope, postmarked January 26, 1962; a Variety special enclosure publicizing the film; an original 8" x 10" still of Alford with Mary Badham and John Megna (both age 9); two letters from the casting director, one dated January 3, 1962 and congratulating Alford on winning the role, and one dated January 8, 1963 and praising his performance; and an envelope including lodging receipts for the Alford family's trip to Los Angeles, as well as an "Information for Parents" paper from the Los Angeles City Board of Education regarding rules and regulations for child actors. In Excellent condition. Desirable connections to a classic film which ranks as #1 on the American Film Institute's list of Great Courtroom Dramas. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
