The famed actor Sir Alec Guinness wrote this condolence letter to Mrs. Boris Karloff, dated April 12, 1969 and handwritten in black ink on his 6.25" x 8" personal stationery. It reads in part: "We were so distressed to hear of Boris's death and knowing what anguish you must be in - please accept our heartfelt condolences. I do wish I had known him better. I liked him so very much and so greatly admired him. His passing is a sadness for us all...Yours ever, Alec." Also included is the original hand-addressed stamped envelope, postmarked Petersfield, April 13, 1969; Mrs. Karloff wrote "Alec G." in the return address area and added a check mark beside the name. Letter and envelope are in Excellent condition. An interesting time period for Sir Guinness, equidistant between his Oscar-winning performance in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) and his Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars (1977). From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
