Sharon Tate Signed Letter and Handwritten Envelope, 1965. The date is September 23, 1965. Sharon Tate is in France, filming The Eye of the Devil, which stars David Niven and Kim Novak (later replaced by Deborah Kerr). The film is supposed to be Sharon's big break, and while on location, she takes a piece of stationery from the Chateau de Castel-Novel, where she's lodging, and writes to her beloved grandmother: "Dear Nannie, I had a few clippings from various newspapers in London and thought you'd like to have them -- since there [sic] my first. The pictures are bad but there [sic] special since I waited so long for this to happen.
"I must say all of this is very exciting but to my surprise very dull. The only thing I can think about is. how soon can I get home to my little things & Jay. I'm already counting the seconds.
"We're on location in France now and will go back to London in two weeks and then home in a month & a half -- I hope. Well I had better close now -- I hope to see you in a Pedro when I return. All my love, Sharon XXX."
The content of this letter, including Sharon's reflections on fame, her homesickness, and the mention of her then-fiancé, Jay Sebring, is remarkable. The handsome Chateau de Castel-Novel stationery, the accompanying envelope hand-addressed by Sharon and bearing its colorful air mail stamps, the obvious affection for "Nannie" and the vivid closing "All my love, Sharon," charmingly punctuated by three X's, all make this a most-exciting and very moving artifact. In Excellent condition. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
