Miklós Rózsa Handwritten Letter and John Williams Signed Card. A handwritten single-page letter in blue ink on tissue stock, dated August 29, 1980, from composer Miklos Rózsa to screenwriter and journalist Rex McGee. In it, Rozsa offers condolences on the passing of McGee's mother, describes work on a string quartet, and his travels. He also mentions director Billy Wilder, for whom he scored Five Graves to Cairo (1943), Double Indemnity (1944), The Lost Weekend (1945), The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970), and Fedora (1978): "What your are saying about Wilder and his new picture is sad. To think that this silly, wisecracking man is the same who once made The Lost Weekend is hardly conceivable." (At the time of this writing, Wilder was working on what would be his final film, Buddy Buddy.) The letter is accompanied by a handwritten "thank you" card on personal stationery to McGee from composer John Williams. In overall Very Fine to Excellent condition with some mailing creases to the letter. From the Billy Wilder/Rex McGee Archive. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
