Letter from Jack Benny to Gary Morton, and Signed Photo of Benny. A letter from one comic superstar to another -- or at least to the other's husband. This letter, typed on Jack Benny's letterhead stationery and dated September 5, 1967, humorously informs Gary Morton about his recent golf game, reading in part: "...Please tell Lucy I may not do my Special now and give up show business entirely and go into sports...if I should decide to go back into television, she will still owe me a guest shot." He concludes with: "I found out that the trouble with my game before was that I had always dressed on the right side and this kept me from taking a full back swing. Now that I dress left side, I follow through beautifully even though it hurts me a little." The letter closes with "Love to you both," and the signature "Jack" in blue ink There's also a typed postscript: "Kiss my ass." This expression was perhaps an inside joke between Benny and the Mortons, since the lot also includes a framed b&w portrait of Benny, signed "All good wishes Jack Benny," with Benny adding in green ink in the upper left corner, "Also kiss my ass!!! Jack." Intriguing, to be sure, and a nice glimpse into the badinage between celebrities. Excellent condition. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susie Morton as the widow of Gary Morton, Ms. Ball's second husband. The lot is not offered by the estate of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
