John Ford Signed Letter to Darryl Zanuck. A single-page handwritten letter on hotel stationery, undated, from director John Ford to producer Darryl Zanuck, congratulating the latter on his Academy Award for Best Picture for How Green Was My Valley (1941). Ford, who directed the movie and won an Oscar for his work on it as well, facetiously writes "Please grant me a favor. Would you have a miniature Oscar made up for me as a memento? You know, quarter size -- "Best Production", etc.? Would appreciate it and it looks like a long time before I compete again." Ford was serving in the Naval Reserve at the time, and the letter is signed "Cmdr. John Ford USNR" in black ink. Mailing creases and punch holes at the top edge, otherwise in Very Fine condition. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
