    Description

Jim Thorpe Signed The Man From Texas Contract. A Screen Actors Guild freelance contract dated June 12, 1939, engaging Thorpe a role as a posse member in the Tex Ritter Western The Man From Texas, signed by the Native American athlete-turned-actor on the back in blue ink. Thorpe, the 1912 Olympics champion later stripped of his medals for having previously played sports professionally, is now renown as the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th century (his Olympic medals were returned to his family in the 1990s). It's moving to see his signature on this contract to play a bit part in a "B" Western. Very Fine to Excellent condition with mild wear. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
