Description

Harry Houdini Signed Letter. A single-page letter on Houdini Picture Corporation letterhead, dated June 7, 1921, signed by the legendary escapist in black ink. It reads: "My dear Edgar Selden: - Thanks for yours of the 6th inst. We are very busy cutting our first picture and I just happened to walk into the office when your letter arrived" (with "as I am at the Laboratory all day" added in ink). "We have the next two stories and it would be impossible for me to entertain anything for the time being, but I will be pleased, in the future, to take things up that might be suitable. Thanks for your letter. Kindest regards and best wishes." Following a brief stint in Hollywood, Houdini returned to New York and started the aforementioned production company, as well as his own film laboratory, the Film Development Corporation (FDC). He produced and starred in two films, The Man From Beyond (1922, most likely the one referenced above) and Haldane of the Secret Service (1923), but neither Houdini's acting career nor FDC were successful, and he gave up on the movie business in 1923, three years before his untimely death. In Fine to Very Fine condition with some mild wear, mailing creases, and mild to moderate toning. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
