Francis Ford Coppola Signed Letter to Lee Marvin with Apocalypse Now Script. A single-page letter on American Zoetrope stationery, undated, handwritten and signed by the writer-producer-director in black ink; it is accompanied by a first draft copy of the script for Apocalypse Now, 131 pages, dated December 5, 1969, with American Zoetrope script cover. The note reads: "Mr. Lee Marvin, I'd like you to play the part of of Colonel Karnage in Apocalypse Now. We're an independant [sic] company in San Francisco financed by Warner Bros. It's a good script." Marvin, along with the likes of Jack Nicholson, Robert Redford, and James Caan, was considered for the role of Karnage -- later renamed "Colonel Kurtz" -- that ultimately went to Marlon Brando for a then-unheard of sum of $3.5 million for one month's worth of location work. The letter is in Excellent condition, and the script is Very Fine with some mild wear. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
