Description

Dalton Trumbo Signed Johnny Got his Gun Script. This is the June 5, 1970 final draft script for Johnny Got his Gun, signed by director/screenplay author Dalton Trumbo (who based the script on his novel). The intensely powerful story told the tragedy of a young soldier, horrifically wounded by a mortar shell in World War I, and who loses his face, arms, legs, and his ability to see, speak, hear, and smell. The film version starred Timothy Bottoms as Joe (the soldier), Jason Robards (as Joe's father) and Donald Sutherland (as Christ), and the film won the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1971. This script was the personal copy of set decorator George R. Nelson and contains his annotations, and Trumbo has inscribed on the title page in black marker "For Bob Nelson -- who made this script have the appearance of life. Gratefully, Dalton Trumbo, Chatsworth, July 24, 1970." Trumbo was one of the most famous of the "Unfriendly Ten" who defied the HUAC and endured blacklisting. In overall Fine condition with some minor staining and creasing to the cover. Accompanied by a James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
