Description
Clint Eastwood Early Signed Letter to Billy Wilder (1954). A fascinating single-page, handwritten and letter, dated October 25, 1954, from Clint Eastwood to director Billy Wilder, in which he expresses interest in playing pioneering aviator Charles Lindbergh in Wilder's The Spirit of St. Louis (1957). At the time the letter was written, the 24-year-old Eastwood was still months away from his feature film debut -- in an uncredited role as a lab technician in the sci-fi flick Revenge of the Creature (1955). The letter is written and signed by the actor-director in blue ballpoint. Also included is a single-page letter on Universal letterhead, dated October 20, 1954, from director Arthur Lubin (Buck Privates, Phantom of the Opera) to Wilder, suggesting that a "lad" named Clint Eastwood (who had yet to be seen on the silver screen) be considered "for the forthcoming Lindbergh picture." Ultimately, James Stewart was cast as "Lindy," but Eastwood obviously rebounded from the loss. Letters are in overall Fine to Very Fine condition with some folds, creasing; soiling, and file holes punched to the top edges. From the Billy Wilder Archive. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
