    Description

Claude Rains Signed Photograph from 1925. A dashingly handsome and dramatic original photograph of Claude Rains as Faulkland in Richard Brinsley Sheridan's The Rivals, presented at London's Lyric Theatre in 1925. The photograph, measuring 5.25" x 8.75", is attached to 7.75" x 10.75" paper backing, with Rains signing in fountain ink in the backing's lower right area "Claude Rains 1925." The photographer's stamp ("Raven Studio") is on the reverse. This was a memorable production for Rains: his two former wives, Isabel Jeans and Marie Hemingway were in the cast, as was his wife at the time, Beatrix Thomson. The backing has some border damage, but the photograph and signature are both clean and in overall Fine condition. A marvelous study of the 36-year-old, pre-Hollywood Rains, looking very much the matinee idol. From the Claude Rains Estate Archive.
