Chuck Jones' Condolence Letter to Mrs. Boris Karloff. This wonderful letter comes from legendary animator Chuck Jones, who produced and directed Sr. Seuss' Yuletide classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The letter is written in black ink on Jones' 8.5" x 11" Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. stationery, bearing the Leo the Lion Logo, with a color illustration of the Grinch in the lower left corner. The sentiment reads: "Dear Mrs. Karloff, It now appears apparent that "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be a Christmas feature on Television for as long as anyone can envisage. In my opinion the major reason for this is that Mr. Karloff gave such a thoughtful and understanding reading of the script. I think it is entirely appropriate that children for many generations will find joy and a deeper understanding of Christmas through the skill of your husband. Thank you - and him. Chuck Jones. Producer/Director "The Grinch." Jones has added next to the Grinch illustration, "Watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas - or else!" and also added "CBS/TV 7:00 December 18th." The letter is undated, but the original envelope (with MGM logo and the name "Chuck Jones" typed in the return address area) bears the Hollywood postmark of Feb. 5, 1969 -- three days after Karloff's death. Mrs. Karloff added a small check mark beside Jones' name on the return envelope; otherwise, the letter and envelope are in Excellent condition. A delightful item -- and Jones' prediction about the show's enduring power was happily prophetic. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection.
