Description

Charles Lindbergh Signed Letter to Billy Wilder Regarding Spirit of St. Louis, 1957. A two-page typed letter from Charles Lindbergh to Billy Wilder, signed by the aviation pioneer on the last page in black ink. The letter is dated April 9, 1957, and expresses Lindbergh's admiration for Wilder's biopic The Spirit of St. Louis. Lindbergh writes, in part, "...let me tell you it is quite a sensation to see one's life portraid [sic] on the screen -- enjoyable, startling, humorous, serious, fascinating, stirring mind and emotion in quite an extraordinary way." Also included is Wilder's typed, unsigned response to Lindbergh, in which he comments on his collaboration with Lindbergh for the film, writing "As far as I'm concerned, the best that came out of it was getting to know you. I shall treasure this for the rest of my life." In Very Good condition, all three pages stapled together on the upper left corner, with center folds to the Lindbergh letter. From the Billy Wilder Archive. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
