    Carl Laemmle Signature and Early Universal Studios Correspondence. Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Pictures in 1912, was one of the most legendary of all Hollywood pioneers, and his studio one of the most colorful in film history. This packet of four letters includes a typed letter on The Laemmle Film Service letterhead (prior to Laemmle founding Universal), dated March 24, 1910, and signed in full by Laemmle in black fountain ink; a typed letter dated August 27, 1914, on Universal Films letterhead, signed by studio business manager P. Lawhead in black fountain ink; a typed letter on Universal Film Exchange letterhead and signed by the studio's Milwaukee branch manager W. Brimmer; and a typed letter dated April 24, 1935, on Universal Film Exchange stationery, signed in purple fountain ink by asst. Milwaukee manager John Bergant. The last piece is typed and signed on specially designed color stationery promoting Bride of Frankenstein, featuring wonderful illustrations of Boris Karloff as the Monster and leading lady Elsa Lanchester.
