Buddy Ebsen Owned and Stage-Played Oil Can Bass with Signed Photo. Offered here is the wonderfully odd one-string bass termed his "pacemaker" by Ebsen himself. At more than six feet high, the bass is constructed of a 2' x 13 ½" blue and white oil drum, the neck and headstock of an upright bass, and various wood and metal components. Played on stage numerous times by Ebsen (even accompanying Bluegrass greats Flatt & Scruggs!) in full Jed Clampett costume, the bass exhibits some black electrical tape bracing on headstock and neck. Also included with the bass a 9 ½" x 7 ½" (sight) color photo of Buddy as Jed, signed "Welll Doggie / Buddy Ebsen", and framed to an overall 17" x 15 ½", as well as a bow, extra string, five photos of Ebsen playing the bass on stage in costume, and one color 6 ½" x 10" photo showing Ebsen at home with the bass. Bass is in Very Good condition, exhibiting some wear due to stage play, age and storage. An incredibly unique piece. COA from Heritage Auctions.
