An Ethel Merman Collection of Amusing Letters, 1950s-1960s. Fourteen total, all sent to Mike Connolly, a journalist at 'The Hollywood Reporter,' ranging in date from 1959 to 1962, mostly typed and then signed by the star in blue ballpoint ink in the lower right corner (though two are handwritten and three are cards), all on personalized stationery or hotel letterhead, with interesting tidbits and references to movers and shakers of the day such as Frank Sinatra, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, "Joe" Kennedy, "the President" [JFK], Jimmy Van Heusen, Mrs. Eisenhower, Jimmy Donahue [the notorious Woolworth heir and playboy], Dick and Honey Berlin [parents of Brigid and Ritchie Berlin, the 1960s Andy Warhol Factory hanger-ons], Mitzi Gaynor, Bob Hope, and Richard Nixon, Merman also makes a few references to "Gypsy," her famous Broadway musical -- overall, a fun collection showing how Merman was continually on the go.
