A William Holden Group of Signed Documents from "Samurai," 1954. An archive of 18 assorted documents and items of correspondence pertaining to Holden's involvement in the U.S. distribution of the 1954 Japanese historical drama "Samurai: The Legend of Musashi." The first in a trilogy by director Hiroshi Inagaki and starring Toshiro Mifune, "Samurai" won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1955. Included are four letters of agreement allowing Holden to record narration for the movie's U.S. print and trailers, each signed by him; a signed congratulatory letter from Toho Pictures Vice President Kumatoshi Teramoto; and a letter of inquiry to Holden from theater-chain owner Walter Read Jr. in which the latter erroneously refers to the film as "The Seven Samurai." The documents are in overall Very Fine condition. A portion of the proceeds to be donated to the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.
