    A Montgomery Clift Group of Signed Letters to Director Fred Zinnemann and Family, 1950s-1960s. Six total including: 1) a small notecard, likely from 1953, handwritten in blue ballpoint ink by the actor "With my love / and fondest thoughts / Robert E. Lee Prewitt" [his character's name in the 1953 Columbia classic directed by Zinnemann, "From Here to Eternity"]; 2) one page letter on blue stationery, dated "August 6, 1954," typed, to "Renee" [Bartlett, Zinnemann's wife], reading in part "I spent July in Maine / ...read 18 / scripts - 4 novels. Still am / unemployed," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Monty;" 3) one page letter on blue stationery, dated "June 2, 1955," typed, to "Dearest" [Renee Bartlett], reading in part "...I have a terrible / time finding out where my family is!," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Monty;" 4) one page letter on blue stationery, dated "October 12, 1955," typed to "Dear Mme. President" [Renee Bartlett], reading in part "Without going into detail, let me just / say that I'm in a good phase," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Monty;" 5) one page letter on blue stationery, dated "May 27, 1958," typed, to "Dear Segregationists," reading in part "I'm / going to do a movie / ...Miss Lonelyhearts," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Monty;" and 6) two page letter on off-white stationery, dated "15 August 1964," typed to "Freddy," reading in part "The Beattles [sic] are playing at a near by / Cinema / ...TE8-8873 M(y) Private / Number -- Never turned off. You don't / have to call person to person -- (then / all the operators listen in)," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Monty;" all with original fold marks; overall, a touching group of correspondence showing how close the actor was to the director and his family; consigned directly by Zinnemann's son, Tim.
