DescriptionA Marilyn Monroe and Many Others Collection of Autographs, Early 1960s. Three separate pieces of long cardboard, all housed in a wooden carrying case painted brown with a metal handle on the side; the first piece of cardboard has text on the top margin reading in part "La Pasta Fazula Club" -- a fictitious club made up by Louis Giampa, a photographer for The Chicago Sun Times, solely for the purposes of obtaining celebrity signatures while he was on assignment; Giampa would carry around this wooden case and have his subjects sign the interior cardboard pieces, thus becoming members of his funny non-existent club; countless A-listers who visited Chicago and who met with the photographer went along with his gag, signing in various shades of fountain pen or ballpoint ink including, most importantly, Marilyn Monroe (who signed largely in black fountain pen ink) plus many others such as (in alphabetical order): John Agar, Edgar Bergen, Ward Bond, Joe E. Brown, Eddie Cantor, Hoagy Carmichael, Leo Carrillo, Jack Carson, Rosemary Clooney, Gary Cooper, Yvonne DeCarlo, Albert Dekker, Faith Domergue, José Ferrer, George Gobel, Burl Ives, George Jessel, Victor Jory, Dorothy Lamour, Peggy Lee, Janet Leigh, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Marilyn Maxwell, Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Maureen O'Hara, Mary Pickford, Cole Porter, Debbie Reynolds, Edward G. Robinson, Jane Russell, Barbara Stanwyck, Adlai Stevenson, Gloria Swanson, Danny Thomas, Harry Truman, Mamie Van Doren, Weegee, and Cornel Wilde, among a few others. (Please note two boards are affixed to the wooden case; the third board with Monroe's signature is freestanding).
