    A John Wayne-Related Mug from "The Alamo." United Artists, 1960. Made of ceramic, gold-painted handle, handpainted image of the mission on the front under text reading "The Alamo," the back reads "Art / From / Duke," "Art" being Arthur B. Smith [a soundman], two different stamps appear on bottom though both are somewhat illegible: one reads in part "Wallace China / Los Angeles, Calif. / Made in U.S.A.," the other in part "Bob... / Coffee Mugs / 155 W. 3rd St. / ...Calif.;" gifted by Wayne to cast and crew as was his tradition.

    PROVENANCE:
    Arthur B. Smith worked with John Wayne on numerous films (including the 1960 United Artists release, "The Alamo") as a sound engineer as well as being the actor's private pilot while on location. He counted Duke as a friend until his death in 1979. Additionally, Smith won an Honorary Academy Award for 'Special Effects' for the 1938 Paramount film "Spawn of the North."
