    A James Stewart Signed "The FBI Story" Contract Plus A Letter from J. Edgar Hoover, 1957-1958. Includes a 36-page agreement dated December 20, 1957 with revisions dated January 21 and April 21, 1958, signed on page 27 by Stewart in blue ink. The agreement engaged the actor to appear in the role of Chip Hardesty in 1959 drama. It is accompanied by a single-page letter on FBI letterhead, dated August 27, 1958, referencing the movie and signed by Hoover in black ink. Hoover had a heavy hand in the movies production, personally selecting Stewart for the role due to his all-American image, forcing the re-shoot of several scenes that he felt did not portray the Bureau in an appropriate manner, demanding final approval of the film, and assigning two agents to observe director Mervyn LeRoy for the duration of production.
