Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (TCF, 1977). Rolled, Very Fine+. Promotional Poster (20.5" x 28"). Howard Chaykin Artwork. This poster represents the birth of the Star Wars phenomenon and was the first piece of merchandise ever produced for the franchise. Marvel Comics artist Howard Chaykin created the artwork based on early stills and Ralph McQuarrie concepts, and the posters were sold at comic conventions during the summer of 1976 in an attempt to generate buzz for the then-unknown sci-fi property. Only about a thousand were produced and sales at San Diego Comic-Con and Kansas City WorldCon weren't stellar, so very few copies remain in circulation. The poster exhibits some light wrinkling and handling wear. No advanced Star Wars collection is complete without this important genesis piece.
