Sal Mineo Handwritten Letter. Two-page letter, dated August 2, 1955, from a 16-year-old Mineo to "Mr. Wines." He writes in part: "I am due to be in California Aug. 12 to do a role in 'Giant' for W.B. Its stars are Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor. 'The Private War of Major Benson', which opens here in N.Y. Aug 2, was my second picture. By the way it's about a military school. I think you would enjoy it. My third is with James Dean in 'Rebel Without a Cause.' I was out in California for eighteen weeks." Mineo was one of the most talented and exciting adolescent actors working in Hollywood in the '50s -- he was nominated for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Rebel Without a Cause"-- Mineo died in 1976 at the age of 37 when he was stabbed to death as he returned to his Hollywood home from a play rehearsal. A truly extraordinary letter from a 16-year-old just returning from shooting his first Oscar-nominated performance. In fine condition. With COA from PSA/DNA.
