Description

Stuart Sutcliffe Signed Drawing. Regularly referred to as "The Fifth Beatle" and often credited with naming the band, Stuart Sutcliffe was a gifted painter and more interested in art than music. He left the band in late 1961 to study art at the Hamburg State Art College; sadly, he died a few months later of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 21. Featured here is a 4.5" x 6.5" ink sketch of an exterior scene, which Sutcliffe titled Nocturne, with intricate cross-hatching used to indicate depth and shadow. Sutcliffe left his fingerprints along the right and lower borders and his signature "Sutcliffe" in the upper right corner. On the back, Sutcliffe created an abstracted exterior scene of trees and sky in watercolor and pencil. The overall size of the page is 8" x 10.25." Wonderful, rare samples of work by a talent cut short. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
