    Description

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Sword of Kahless Display Prop Designed by Visual Effects Supervisor Dan Curry (1995). Made of steel, with Klingon writing engraved into the two protruding side blades, and the Klingon insignia cut into the center, handle wrapped in stripes of brown leather; originally designed by Dan Curry for the 81st episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, this prop was crafted by master knife maker Gil Hibben (known for the Rambo knife), who was contracted by Paramount Pictures to fabricate a display piece for the MGM Grand "Star Trek Experience". Only two were made: one for the exhibit, and this one for the personal collection of Dan Curry, who designed the original sword prop used in the television series. Includes an 8 1/2" x 11" photocopy of Curry's original concept sketch. Measures a massive 59.75" x 16". In Excellent condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Dan Curry has worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation (where he designed the original "Bat'Leth" Klingon weapon), Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise as a visual effects supervisor and producer, where his work earned him seven Emmy awards. According to Curry, when designing the Sword of Kahless, he "took into account that the great primordial Klingon warrior lived in an extremely violent culture guided by a strong martial code of honor. As with the original Bat'Leth, I wanted something ergonomically sound that could be wielded with ?uidity by a master of the Klingon martial arts style, Mok'Bara, inspired by my studies of Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Hung Gar, and Muay Thai. It was also important that it was distinctively different than the original Bat'Leth, so I decided to go more baroque with more vicious lethal projections such as the central disembowelment ?ange and the adjacent grappling scoops. It was critical to serve the story that the Sword of Kahless inspired the reverence of the characters, and gave director, LeVar Burton, and actors Michael Dorn and Terry Farrell something cool to work with."
