    Description

CURRENT SMASH WAS "TRAVELIN' MAN"/"HELLO MARY LOU"

Ricky Nelson / The Everly Bros. 1961 Atlantic City, New Jersey Concert Poster. An unusual but catchy vintage window card advertising three legends appearing at the Steel Pier concert venue in Atlantic City, NJ right in the middle of summer 1961. Ricky Nelson took the stage for the first two nights, August 4th and 5th; the Everly Brothers followed for a full week of performances; and Les Brown and his Orchestra entertained the adults with dancing in the Marine Ballroom concurrently.

Ricky / Rick Nelson hardly ever turns up on a vintage 50's-60's concert poster; he either didn't tour much, or his management didn't believe in using posters. We can count on one hand the number of Nelson concert posters we've ever seen from those two decades combined. And we've never seen another one of these, either.

So it goes without saying that this is the very first Ricky Nelson concert poster Heritage has ever offered. The closest we've come before this was a 1980 "Rick" Nelson poster where he was opening for Anne Murray. Rick wasn't touching the charts by then; here, in the early 60's, Ricky was a veritable hit-making machine. He was just coming off a huge double-sided smash from this spring & summer, "Travelin' Man" b/w "Hello Mary Lou." The A-side reached #1 on Billboard's charts and the B-side attained #9, and they remain his two most recognizable and career-defining songs to this day.

With his very next single, released the following month, his records were released by Imperial Records as "Rick" Nelson. The early, innocent "Ricky" phase had come to an end.

What a spectacular moment in time for a Ricky Nelson concert poster.

Also on the poster are The Everly Brothers for a full week, no slouch on the charts themselves. Earlier this year, Phil and Don had their own double-sided Top 10 hit: "Walk Right Back" b/w "Ebony Eyes." You can be sure they also played their 1950's classics like "Bye Bye Love," "Wake Up Little Susie," "All I Have to Do Is Dream" and "('Til) I Kissed You."

Measures 11" x 16 3/4" and is graded Very Good Plus for some toning and grime around the perimeter, and a damaged lower left corner with some paper missing - but not the cardboard underneath. COA from Heritage Auctions.

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
