Peter, Paul & Mary 1963 Buffalo, NY Concert Poster in Their Biggest Year.A yellow & black cardboard window card advertising the folk trio at Kleinhan's Music Hall in the most commercially successful year of their career. This very week in Billboard magazine, "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" would enter the pop singles chart and ascend all the way to #2 in the country, turning Peter, Paul & Mary into a household name. That single was immediately followed by their cover of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," which would also soar to the #2 spot. And to complete the trifecta, their next single at the end of summer was Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," another Top 10 hit for them. All of this combined to make 1963 easily the biggest year of PP&M's career, launching decades of popularity, accolades and live concerts.
A terrific poster design used for this one city only, as Kleinhan's and promoter Joe Rico were known to do, much to the delight of vintage poster collectors. One can all but dismiss the "Jazz" references on here, btw; Rico was prone to use that term for almost anybody he brought in. Sunday, March 10th, 1963 at 8:00 PM. All seats reserved, scaled from $2.50 up to $5.00. Since it announces "Tickets On Sale February 28th," we know that the poster dates to before then. Three locations are then given, including one in nearby Niagara Falls.
Measures 14" x 22". In Very Good condition with bumping on the corners, toning on the right center side, wear to the edges, and light creasing on the right center side. COA from Heritage Auctions.
