Monumental archive of (100,000++) photographs. (Various Studios, 1910s-2000s) A truly remarkable and comprehensive assemblage of material covering several hundred, likely thousands, of individual film titles, personalities, and television subjects. Consisting primarily of vintage gelatin silver 8 x 10 in. glossy photographs, including very few commercial dupes, a large body of which appear to be the contents of a decommissioned film exchange, with many titles filed in envelopes containing from a few to as many as 100 or more photos from original and/or subsequent rereleases of the film. Given the sheer volume of material on offer, it's impossible to give anything like a full accounting of the incredible breadth encompassed by the archive. Instead, here are highlights from just three boxes, opened at random, of the more than 175+ included in this lot: 8 ½, The Birds, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, Girls on the Beach, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Hercules vs. the Moon Men, The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock, Panic Button, I Could Go on Singing, War & Peace, The Black Room, Anchors Aweigh, Cobra Woman, House of Frankenstein, The Mummy (Universal), The Mummy's Ghost, The Ghost of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, The Mummy's Tomb, The Conformist, and Son of Frankenstein. Based on the physical appearance of the archive and the quality of these examples, it is our presumption that the contents remain largely intact and un-plundered for the most desirable titles and subjects. One minor drawback to the fact of their decades-long, undisturbed storage, however, is that some small percentage of these photographs have been subject to moisture damage, and are no longer viable for collecting purposes. Still another portion of the archive comprises loose, unsorted, unfiled photos contained in many dozen banker's boxes, the contents of which cover a similar era and multiplicity of subjects. Needless to say, given the extensive range of material, we strongly encourage interested bidders to preview in person. Condition ranges widely, with the majority remaining good to very good.
