Modern Jazz Quartet 1955 Jazz at Town Hall Concert Handbill. A B&W but handsomely designed concert flyer from 65 years ago for the Modern Jazz Quartet appearing at Town Hall in New York City in the fall of 1955. Support acts were jazz singers Chris Connor and Sylvia Syms, versatile clarinetist Tony Scott, and trombonists J.J. Johnson and Kay Winding, billed as the Jay and Kay Quintet.

This was a transitional year for the MJQ, as they had just recorded their final album for the Prestige label, and the following year would sign on to Atlantic Records. It was also the year their initial drummer Kenny Clarke, originally from Dizzy Gillespie's band, resigned from the group; he was replaced by Connie Kay, who would become their long-term drummer.

For radio and disc jockey enthusiasts, this handbill also serves as an early B. Mitchell Reed collectible, the famous Top 40 and rock DJ who worked in both New York and Los Angeles. He served as an orator at this show very early in his career, billed down at the bottom as "Mitch Reed (WOR's All Night D.J.)."

Measures 8 ½" x 11" and is graded Near Mint with only the slightest nudging of a lower edge directly down from "Program." In pristine condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
