Mary Wells / Bo Diddley Large Colorful Globe Concert Poster (1970's).
A jumbo advertising window card almost three feet tall for seven oldies acts performing in the nation's capital on Friday, June 1, 1979 - probably (see below).

Here's a chance to own an original Globe Posters cardboard concert poster full of hit acts, some great photos, hit records listed and Globe's famous bright colors without paying a 1950's or 60's price, which would sell for north of $5,000. (Two years ago, Heritage sold a slightly faded version of this poster for $2,250.)

Mary Wells leads the bunch with a great headshot photo and three Top 10 pop hits listed, the evergreen "My Guy" plus "You Beat Me to the Punch" and "Two Lovers." Bo Diddley is below her with a cool guitar photo and his only Top 20 pop hit listed, "Say Man," plus his second R&B hit from 1955, "Diddley Daddy." The Five Keys had a #1 record in 1951 with "The Glory of Love," but it's not on the poster; instead you have "Close Your Eyes," a Top 5 R&B hit; "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," a mild 50's hit; and "Dream On," a non-charter. Both the group's spelling and song selection may have been for legal reasons.

Los Angeles vocal group The Vibrations are next, including the listing of their first two charting hits, "The Watusi" and "My Girl Sloopy." Then you have The Clovers, who were monster R&B hitmakers throughout the 1950s. The Jewels follow with "Opportunity," and the talent is rounded out by The Velons and the Donald Watts Sextet. Then lots of record stores are given to buy tickets, which were priced at $9.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door.

Which brings up a point: we're strongly guessing this poster is from 1979, but it also could be from 1973. The Vibrations supposedly dissolved for good in 1976; and yet a $10 ticket price would've been high for 1973 (the Rolling Stones were still charging under $10 then). It doesn't help that oldies singing groups would change members like mad as they marched through time. So if you know definitively about the year of this concert or can shed some light, please contact us and we may change the wording on this listing before the auction ends. (Whenever we're not sure about a poster, we'll tell you that; we won't fake it.) Thanks.

Measures 22" x 35". In Very Good condition, with some surface paper loss to corners, wear and rubbing to edges and corners, stray printer's ink, some toning, and tape residue on the corners. COA from Heritage Auctions.

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
