Marilyn Monroe "Cherie" Ensemble from Bus Stop (TCF, 1956). Vintage original (2) piece signature ensemble including (1) black lace over olive green mesh peasant style top with elasticized boat neckline with static string tie, puffed princess sleeves with elasticized cuffs, and hook and eye and snap full length back closure, and (1) black silk satin wrap around sheath skirt with interior hidden weights and self-cover button closure.

Both skirt and top retaining internal 20th Century-Fox bias labels, as well as costumer's bias labels handwritten, "Marilyn Monroe" in black ink. This screen matching costume is seen in countless promotional images from Bus Stop. In addition, photographer Milton H. Greene shot Marilyn wearing this black lace top during one of their famous sessions. Exhibiting production wear, loose/repaired elastic in sleeves, and missing (not present) static sleeve ties.

Due to her obsession with Marilyn Monroe, Gene London loaned this costume to pop icon Madonna who wore it for a Steven Meisel Vanity Fair photo shoot, and one of the images was used for the poster promoting her documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991).

Accompanied by a vintage patent leather belt for display (not from production). In vintage Very Good to Fine condition. Provenance: Acquired from Twentieth Century Fox. From The Gene London Cinema Collection.
