Kinks Large 1964 British Concert Poster Signed by Lead Guitarist Dave Davies An original thin-paper advertising poster for the newly "chart-topping Kinks" at the Astoria in Rawtenstall, England on Saturday, October 3, 1964. That's right, their first hit single had gone all the way to #1, and this poster flaunts it.

The poster has been signed in blue pen by the band's lead guitarist, "Dave Davies XXX." It's unknown what era this signature is from.

In many ways, this is the ultimate early Kinks concert poster. For one thing, it's so early that the band's debut album, The Kinks on Pye Records, hadn't entered the British charts yet; heck, it had only been released yesterday, according to Wikipedia (on October 2, 1964).

And singles-wise, this concert fell directly between their first hit, "You Really Got Me," and their second, "All Day and All of the Night," released about three weeks after this show. Fabulous! The British Invasion, especially in 1964, was ON.

All original U.K. concert posters of this era were pretty predictably 20 x 30" and on very thin paper, resulting in very few of them having survived the half-century since. This rarity is not only the only one Heritage has ever offered, it's the only copy we've ever heard of. The poster may say "chart-topping," but we call it heart-stopping if you're a Kinks fan.

As mentioned, measures the standard British 20 x 30" and grades to Very Good. One 1/2" tear at the top has been mended with masking tape, the residue of which has blended through to the front yellow paper. A one-inch tear at the bottom center has not been mended, nor has another 1/2-inch tear at the top margin. There are three tack holes in each of the four corners, with the upper two corners having ones a bit larger than the lower two corners. The top edge is a bit crinkled all the way across. In the lower left corner area, someone has written "14 - 4" in pen. On typical very thin paper of the day, the poster was folded down into 16ths at one time, but then flattened out to where it now lays totally flat and no color is broken due to the folds.
