Jan & Dean 1964 Sacramento, CA Surf-Music Concert Handbill, Including David Marks of the Beach Boys. A totally gnarly 1964 surf-music concert handbill from Sacramento, California featuring big stars Jan and Dean at their peak, plus a well-thought-out support crew of musicians including recent ex-Beach Boy David Marks with his new group, and soon-to-be Beach Boy Glen Campbell trying to get his career in gear. The sleeper on this flyer is "Mr. Drums," Hal Blaine, who rattled the skins on more hit records than this internet web site can hold.

Sacramento's Fred Vail, most famous for being the first promoter in the country to break out the Beach Boys live, promoted this show, and as you can see, he leaves no stone unturned and no highlight unmentioned. For example: fifteen Jan & Dean songs listed? We love you Fred, but who set the type so that your handbill called their Top 10 hit "Dead Man's Curve"... um, "Dean Man's Curb"? LOL

But this green & white l-a-r-g-e handbill certainly has all the bells & whistles, and it's a great piece to have, knowing that J&D's classic "Ride the Wild Surf" was their current hit.

Measures 14" x 8 ½" and grades to Very Good for a diagonal crease in the lower right third of the flyer, a couple more creases in the two left corner areas, a couple of small random surface marks, general overall toning and a couple of nicks on the right edge. The lower right corner might look like the edge is missing, but it's just folded under, and we made no attempt to straighten it out. COA from Heritage Auctions.
