Description
Citizen Kane Second Revised Draft Screenplay by Herman J. Mankiewicz and Orson Welles (RKO, 1941). Vintage original studio bound and bradded 156-page Second Revised Draft Screenplay. Cover printed, "CITIZEN KANE" and dated "July 9, 1940." Cover also bears the studio ink stamps, "1239," "68," and "Second Revised Final Script." Handwritten at the top right corner in blue ink, "Files." This script marks a young Orson Welles' first foray into feature filmmaking, which resulted in what many consider the greatest American film ever made. Welles was given unprecedented creative control, and his ultimate film earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning in the Best Writing (Original Screenplay) category for Mankiewicz and Welles. In 1989, Citizen Kane was selected by the Library of Congress as one of 25 inaugural inductees chosen for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The covers of the script exhibit age, edge loss, brittleness, chipping, and the front cover is detached but present. Contents remain in vintage Very Good condition. Presented in a 9" x 12" x 1.5" maroon cloth and board custom clamshell case, with gold gilt embossed text on the cover and spine, including script title and other info.
