BG-23 Jefferson Airplane / Grateful Dead 1966 Fillmore Auditorium Concert Poster Signed by Wes Wilson. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead at the Fillmore Auditorium on August 12 and 13, 1966.

For many, this poster has it all. The two most quintessential San Francisco rock bands; great colors, purple and red; rolling psychedelic lettering that's fun, but not too hard to read; photographs of the bands, the first BG or FD poster to do so; simplicity; and 11 familiar faces looking out at you, from musicians that changed most of our lives.

Known as BG-23 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was signed by the poster's creator, Wes Wilson, in pencil down in the lower right corner. Wes was known as the dean of San Francisco psychedelic poster artists, having designed 45 of the first 50 Bill Graham concert posters, and the first 10 Family Dog posters as well. Sadly, Mr. Wilson just passed away earlier this year.

Measures 14 1/4" x 20" and graded Near Mint Minus. This is the first run on this poster which has Wes Wilson's credit buried in the dark purple under "Aug." on the right. Wes's signature is in pencil on the purple to the right of the ticket info, low-contrast but very much there (see close-up photo).

Poster has a white-tipped upper right corner and a small crease there as well, which broke color but is very firmly attached. Very slight creases in the purple to left of "Jefferson" and "Fillmore." Both show mainly on the poster's verso, but not much. The red and purple coloring remains deep & rich.
