Beatles - Original Capitol Records Meet the Beatles Moving Heads Store Display (1964). After an extremely successful year in their native UK, the Beatles finally broke big in America. Capitol Records was initially resistant of the group, but the infectious sound of "Yeah Yeah Yeah" caused the company to do a complete turnabout, resulting in a huge promotional campaign for their first US album, a reworked version of the boys second UK LP. Titled Meet the Beatles, the album took off in the early days of 1964, and it promptly knocked everyone on their collective heads, young and old alike. Finding early promo material for Meet the Beatles is tough, especially this incredible piece. Designed as a window display, this large cardboard stand-up features a famous Dezo Hoffman photo of the band in their collarless suits -- note the cigarette in Paul's hand (later airbrushed out for use on a 1984 re-issue picture sleeve). The heads of Paul, Ringo, George, and John were die-cut and sit about a half-inch from the display; a battery-operated mechanical device in the back causes the heads to sway back and forth. It's easy to imagine a group of teenage girls gathered outside a record store window, swooning to the swaying Mop Top heads! Displays such as this were sent to select radio stations and retail outlets in early February 1964. It measures approximately 30.75" x 25.5" x 6". These coveted displays rarely survive, as most were ruined by direct exposure to sun, and the few that are still around are usually missing at least one head. This item is complete and in good working order. It will be a standout item in even the most advanced Beatles collection, and is sure to cause some spirited bidding. Don't hesitate on this; you know you want it! Fine condition, with light wear to top left edge. Please note there has been minor restoration at the top and bottom edges, and the right side cardboard flap listing song titles.
