An Archive of German and English Record Company Documents Related to The Beatles (Germany, 1960s).
A fascinating archive of original documents from the German Odeon record label, regarding the promotion of the Beatles and their recordings in Germany in the 1960s. After the US and the UK, Germany was the group's third largest market, and clearly this large archive shows the care and attention focused there by EMI, of which Odeon was a German subsidiary. In early 1964, the Beatles recorded a special single "Sie Leibt Dich / Komm, Gib Mir Meine Hand" ("She Loves You / I Want To Hold Your Hand") in German - the only time they did such a thing - which cemented their standing in Germany for the remainder of their careers.
This archive includes numerous documents about that release (and many, many others), including a letter addressed to Manfred Weissleder at the Star-Club about a scheduled release party held there on March 5th, 1964, the German single's street date. There are numerous original Odeon press releases, group biographies, marketing plans, dated record charts, and press clippings from various German publications. All are in German, with one fascinating exception - a photocopied "Schedule of Beatles Merchandising", likely sent to Germany from EMI in London, which over three pages lists many of the early Beatles licensed merchandise items, many of which are included in the Blaschke collection. All documents in Very Good or better condition, most dating to 1964-66, an overall exceptional group of over 50 documents and clippings. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
