    Description

A Huge Collection of Black and White Film Stills from 'Cinema Art' Magazine, 1920s. Part of the archives of the now-defunct 1920s-era film magazine; approximately 170 images, all original prints mostly with a glossy finish, each depicting scenes from films or posed publicity shots of silent era stars such as (in alphabetical order): Richard Arlen, Mary Astor, Vilma Banky, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Richard Barthelmess, Noah Beery, Clara Bow, Mary Brian, Clive Brooks, Francis X. Bushman, Nancy Carroll, Ronald Colman, Jackie Cooper, Delores Costello, Bebe Daniels, Marion Davies, Cecil B. DeMille, Delores Del Rio, Richard Dix, Billie Dove, Marie Dressler, Douglas Fairbanks, John Gilbert, Dorothy Gish, Lillian Gish, Gilda Gray, Edward Everett Horton, Emil Jannings, Arthur Lake, Laura LaPlante, Anita Loos, Adolph Menjou, Colleen Moore, Conrad Nagel, Pola Negri, Ramon Novarro, Mary Philbin, Mary Pickford, William Powell, Estelle Ralston, Rin Tin Tin, Buddy Rogers, Norma Shearer, Lewis Stone, Gloria Swanson, Constance Talmadge, Norma Talmadge, Lupe Velez, King Vidor, H. B. Warner, and Loretta Young, among a few others; film titles represented include (in alphabetical order): Abie's Irish Rose, Baby Mine, The Blood Ship, Bringing Up Father, His Night, Jazz Mad, My Best Girl, Patent Leather Kid, Quality Street, Red Hair, Romance, Rose of the Golden West, Sadie Thompson, Taxi Taxi, The Tempest, A Texas Steer, The Magic Flame, The Night of Love, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and Wings, among many others; virtually all have typed press snipes glued to the verso which is extremely helpful now in identifying many of these now-lost films. (Please note that because these photographs were used for magazine production, most of them are cropped or otherwise marked-up and many have stains, paper loss, and chipping, but overall, it's still an amazing collection related to early Hollywood.)
