Description
Star Wars Sears Exclusive Set of 12 Carded Figures AFA Q-70+ ** POP 1 - ONLY Graded Set ** (Kenner Canada, 1979). In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Star Wars wasn't just a movie-it was a revolution. The Force gripped pop culture with an intensity few had ever seen, and in the world of toys, Kenner led the charge. Sears, one of the premier department stores of the era, capitalized on the craze by offering exclusive figures, vehicles, and playsets-limited releases that would become some of the most sought-after collectibles in the decades to follow. As the demand for Star Wars toys skyrocketed, Kenner Canada launched the very first Sears Exclusive Special 12 Mini-Figure Set in 1979, a milestone in the expansion of the Star Wars toy line. The overwhelming success of this set paved the way for future exclusives, ensuring that the saga continued beyond the silver screen and into the hands of eager fans. This Sears Canada-exclusive set includes twelve iconic characters: Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, Jawa, Death Squad Commander, Sand People, Darth Vader, R2-D2, Stormtrooper, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Chewbacca. The figures remain factory-sealed, with Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Jawa, Death Squad Commander, Darth Vader, R2-D2, Stormtrooper, and Chewbacca on SW 20B cards, while Obi-Wan Kenobi and C-3PO are secured on Guerre des Etoiles SW 12D cards, and Sand People on an SW 20C card. Each cardback features bilingual English and French text, a distinctive touch for Canadian releases. The outer box, showing handling wear along the edges and corners with its tape dried and no longer present, still serves as a testament to this set's rarity and historical significance. Encased in acrylic and graded AFA Q-70+ EX+, this extraordinary piece of Star Wars toy history remains an incredibly rare and highly coveted collector's item - a true relic from the golden age of Star Wars merchandising.
The "Q" grading stands for "Qualified" which designates that the outer box is no longer sealed, however the contents inside remain new and unused. Additionally, an official certificate of authenticity from AFA is included. This is the only AFA graded example of this set currently in existence elevating it to true grail status.
