Description

Star Wars POTF2 Chewbacca (Unproduced Oversize)1:6 Scale Paint Master (Hasbro, 1999). Drawn from the Brian Wilk Collection, this early design paint master represents the development phase of Hasbro's Power of the Force II 1:6 scale Chewbacca, released in 1999 as part of the expanded 12-inch program. During this period, Hasbro sought to more accurately reflect character height relationships within the larger scale line, positioning Chewbacca taller than the standard 12-inch human figures to approximate a true 1:6 scale proportion. The result was an elongated sculpt that emphasized his towering on-screen presence, with this example predating final production adjustments. The torso and overall proportions exhibit an exaggerated verticality, resulting in a noticeably lankier silhouette than the eventual retail release. Prior to mass production, the body was shortened and refined in an effort to temper the elongated appearance, though the core scaling approach remained. As a paint master, this piece would have served as the finalized hand-painted reference used to guide factory paint application and detailing, including the placement and finish of the bandolier and bowcaster accessories. This piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Pre-production paint masters from the Power of the Force II 1:6 program document a transitional era in large-scale Star Wars figure design, and character studies such as this Chewbacca capture the sculptural decision-making behind one of the saga's most physically distinctive heroes.

More Information: Brian Wilk is a veteran toy and game designer and inventor who spent more than 25 years at Hasbro, ultimately rising to the role of Vice President of Product Development for the company's games division. Joining the company around 1999 following a team consolidation, Wilk held a succession of senior leadership positions across several of Hasbro's most recognizable global brands, serving as Design Director for major action figure lines including Transformers, Star Wars, and Spider-Man, with particularly notable influence on the Star Wars brand during the mid-to-late 2000s. Later in his tenure, he transitioned to the Playskool division, focusing on pre-school product development before moving into executive leadership within Hasbro's games portfolio, and he has since gone on to co-found WilkStudio, an independent invention and design firm.

The head exhibits moderate paint rub and loss to the raised areas, most notably along the nose and other high points.
