Star Wars Early Bird Certificate Package AFA 80+(Kenner, 1977). The Star Wars Early Bird Certificate Package was released by Kenner in 1977 alongside the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. According to the almost-mythical story, Kenner couldn't prepare the toys in time for Christmas 1977. Under pressure for solutions, the toymakers came up with the Early Bird kit, which was essentially priced promise. The package itself included a cardboard backdrop, a sheet of stickers, a club membership card, and crucially, a certificate. This certificate could be mailed in to ensure that the holder would receive the first four figures, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2 & Chewbacca, delivered directly to their home as soon as they were available.
