Description

Ungar Battery-Operated Racer Kits Complete Case of 12 (Ungar, 1960s). Produced during the 1960s, these Ungar battery-operated racer kits reflect a hands-on era of toy design, when building and operating a vehicle were part of the play experience itself. Ungar, best known for its electrical tools and soldering equipment, brought a practical, mechanically minded approach to toy manufacturing, and these racer kits embody that crossover between hobbyist engineering and youth-oriented play. Each kit was designed to be assembled by the user, reinforcing mid-century enthusiasm for science, mechanics, and do-it-yourself creativity at a time when battery-powered motion was still a novelty in consumer toys. This offering consists of a complete case of twelve individually boxed kits, all housed together in their original shipper. Condition reporting applies primarily to the individual boxes, which show moderate wear overall, including scuffing and dents along the edges, moderate scuffing and crushing at the corners with small tears present, and moderate scuffing and creasing on the box faces. The shipper case itself shows heavy wear from handling and storage but remains structurally sound. Both the shipping case and the individual kit boxes have been opened; however, the contents remain unused. As a full-case grouping, this lot offers a rare glimpse into how these kits were originally distributed at retail or wholesale level, enhancing their appeal beyond single examples. The survival of all twelve kits together underscores the educational and mechanical spirit that defined many toys of the 1960s, before electronic entertainment reshaped the market. For collectors of vintage battery-operated toys, early hobby kits, or mid-century educational playthings, this complete Ungar racer case represents a compelling and historically grounded snapshot of an inventive era in toy manufacturing.
